A gender
and leadership development programme launched in 1997 has continued
to support efforts by churches and church-related organizations
to empower women in their struggle for life and sustainable development.
Within the framework of this programme, the desk has conducted
three regional workshops on women's leadership and capacity-building,
and prepared a manual for women leaders. It has also supported
efforts by churches in Kenya to press their government to enact
legislation in favour of children's rights, as it undertook to
do when it signed related UN accords.
