our priorities
  • To recognize and respond appropriately to the reality of each region: This involves analyzing and interpreting these realities - political, economic socio-cultural and ecclesial; helping WCC staff and member churches to understand, value and respond to regional diversity; collaborating with national councils of churches, regional ecumenical organizations and other ecumenical bodies around regional priorities.
  • To promote sharing within and between regions through regional groups and round tables, through biblical reflection on sharing, and through mediating between churches where broken relationships are apparent.
  • To facilitate human resources development in the churches and other ecumenical partners in the regions by promoting gender analysis, leadership development, self-reliance and, in cooperation with Action by Churches Together (ACT), emergency-preparedness and response.
  • To equip churches and church-related bodies in each region to help communities - including people in crisis situations and those whose daily life is a struggle to survive - to become sustainable. This work involves regional networking and advocacy, mediating between communities and regions in conflict, and helping churches to act as responsible partners in society.
