The Peace to the City Network grew out of a campaign of the same name that began in August 1997 and culminated in December 1998. The network was active until 2002; its members - churches, peace and justice organizations, faith communities and civil society movements - continue to work within the framework of the Decade to Overcome Violence (2001-2010).

At the threshold of the 21st century, an ecumenical peace movement is taking shape, preparing for the Decade to Overcome Violence, celebrating the International Year for a Culture of Peace: 2000, and relating to the United Nations Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World: 2001-2010.

What do we do
Network members are commited to challenge and transform the global culture of violence in the direction of a culture of peace. The network focuses on practical means to overcome violence via conflict prevention, conflict resolution, mediation, gun control and disarmament. Violence in its many forms is rising.

Whether in the family or on the streets, between communities or between countries, all of us are affected by, even linked to, the violence of today's world.

All of us are affected by the culture of violence;
all of us must help to build a culture of peace.
