The profile of the WCC programme on Education & Ecumenical Formation
  1. To foster the understanding and practice of ecumenical learning.

    • promote the commitment to ecumenical learning in churches, networks, etc., at all levels
    • reflect on the nature and methodologies of ecumenical learning
    • provide educational support for ecumenical study work
    • facilitate exchange between educators and specialists in different areas of education
    • maintain working relationships with the Ecumenical Institute, Bossey

  2. To support the churches' educational ministry within the Christian community and the world.

    • stimulate processes of equipping members and local leaders in the practice of personal discipleship and mission
    • enable the development of lay leadership
    • facilitate the theological education of all in the local congregation
    • promote human resource development through the scholarships programme.

  3. To promote ecumenical theological education and ministerial formation.

    • assist the churches to reflect on and undertake ecumenical theological education and ministerial formation
    • facilitate cooperation between and support the work of networks of theological schools.

  4. To enable families, congregations and church-related institutions to be inclusive learning communities.

    • develop an understanding of learning in and through community which goes beyond formal curricula
    • support work which helps families to be primary places of learning and development
    • enable congregations to be communities of learning
    • encourage reflection on the ecclesiology of the laity and the people of God.
