In May of 1997 the team held an international consultation on the theme: "Towards a Common Understanding of the Theological Concepts of Laity/Laos: The People of God." The aim of the consultation was to begin to clarify the theological understanding and terminology of laity, laos, people of God (Laos tou Theou), and the whole people of God. [Note of clarification: In 1997 the work of the then "stream" on Lay Participation towards an Inclusive Community was lodged in Unit I of the WCC. At that time issues relating to persons with disabilities was lodged with the stream. Since the 1999 restructuring of the WCC, work concerning Lay Participation towards and Inclusive Community has been coupled with the work of team on Education & Ecumenical Formation. Work relating to persons with disabilities is now lodged with the team on Justice, Peace & Creation.]
