Message of support
Geneva, 21 May 2003
Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser
General secretary

The summit meeting of G8 presidents and prime ministers is taking place in the Lake Léman region between France and Switzerland. Local church leaders from the Canton of Vaud and the Chablais region have sent a message to the summit participants; to this message I add the unreserved support of the World Council of Churches.

In the knowledge that the voices of those who are the losers in the present global system will be represented at the summit by some very important people, we hope that the summit will realize the urgent need together to build "a world that is genuinely more responsible and more in solidarity, more secure and more democratic". The World Council of Churches and its member churches remain fully committed to pursuing that objective, as a political as well as a spiritual imperative.
