JOURNEY TO JUBILEE
50 years of the World Council of Churches

"Being together, and struggling together, and covenanting to stay together and grow together, to be the voice of the voiceless, and to challenge the forces of war and death ... that's what the World Council is about," says veteran ecumenist Dr Philip Potter in the introduction to this video celebrating 50 years of the World Council of Churches.

Produced from materials and events of the WCC's 50th anniversary celebrations in Harare, Zimbabwe (December 1998), this video informs and entertains as it follows the life of the council from its first assembly in Amsterdam in 1948, through the milestone assemblies of Evanston (1954), New Delhi (1961), Uppsala (1968), Nairobi (1975), Vancouver (1983), Canberra (1991), and Harare (1998). It invites the question: "What role now, for an ecumenical council of churches, in the new and 'globalized' world of the 21st century?"
