RE: Call for World Wide Coalition for Peace and Against Another War

"Dear AMAN members and brothers and sisters of other faith communities,

Peace be upon you.

After the devastating attack on the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon, and the loss of lives and properties, there have been quick responses of three kinds :

1. Shock, condemnation of the terrorist attack, prayer and solidarity support for the victims and the families, voice against another war.
2. Various analyses about the reasons behind the attack which can be summarized as follows :

  • a. Islamic extremist wanted to destroy western civilization and freedom.
  • b. It was because of frustration, disappointment and anger against double standard in the Middle East, the Palestine-Israel conflict , Sanction against Iraq, which is killing hundreds of thousands of children, Presence of American Soldiers in Saudi Arabia and control over other oil rich countries.
  • c. It was because the way the world is governed by the capitalist, the regime of globalization and economic injustice.
    3. Efforts to build world wide coalition against terrorism under the leadership of America and declaration of war.

    As the central message of all religions is Peace and as we know the consequences of the past wars, it is the duty of all peace loving people to form world wide coalition against the war and against terrorism. We do support efforts to bring the person and groups responsible for horrible attack on the 11th. September according to established international laws, but we are against the war which will not only kill innocent children and destroy environment but also polarize the world and divide people.

    We urge each community , city and town to form a coalition and link with groups within and across the nation, across the border:

    1. To resist war and promote Peace Education, Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation
    2. To build awareness and campaign for the elimination of causes of terrorism and the war
    3. To work towards a National and Global Governance which is just.
