WCC Africa Regional Group
Communiqué of the Africa Regional Group meeting in Kibuye, Rwanda
Sept. 10-14, 2001 to the WCC Executive Committee meeting in Geneva
"We,the members of the Africa Rgional Group, meeting in a peaceful
atmosphere of Kibuye, Rwanda, a country' still dealing with the
consequences of the genocide, were deeply shocked and shaken to learn
of the Tuesday the 11th September 2001 tragedy which befell the USA, her
people and others working, living or visiting that country.
Rev. Dr. André Karamaga, a membor of CC Central Committee and of AACC General Committee, who has addressed and attended our meeting, informed us that ironically the Executive Committee currently meeting in Geneva heard of the tragedy after the report on the Decade to Overcome Violence. We would like to express our deep consternation and pray that any response to this act of violence should not make any more victims.
Our special thoughts and prayers go to the members of the Executive Committee from the US, to their families and to all the churches in their actions to respond to this calamity. We feel united with the Executive Committee during this trying period and hope that the ecumenical Movement will not, because of this latest act of violence, lose its commitment and energy to carry On the process of the Decade to Overcome Violence in the world.
May the God of love and peace be with all of us and especially with those suffering from this tragedy.
