Interfaith Search Fiji
"Terrorists and terrorism are unacceptable to every religion and are condemned by all faith traditions. Interfaith Search Fiji regrets the horrific events of 11 September in the United States of America and offers sympathy and prayers.
We recognise that this event has global implications, which touch all of us. As we are a multi-cultural and multi-religious society here in Fiji it can threaten our fragile relationships.
Our vulnerability has been shown in a number of regrettable attacks in our country on religious buildings and sacred objects since 1987. We are very concerned. The recent examples of religious intolerance and lack of respect for others’ faith include damage to religious buildings, and an educational institution, and destruction of sacred books in Suva and Lautoka.
These actions are the outward manifestations of negative thoughts and words. We are hearing from world leaders words that divide us. Wars, battle, retaliation, revenge, are constantly being repeated around the world.
Peace, love, tolerance, and understanding are fundamental to all our religions.
We call on the leaders of all our faiths to actively promote peaceful relations that recognise our common humanity.
Suruj Pal, Chairperson"
