Evangelisches Missionswerk in Germany
"Dear brothers and sisters,
We are still shocked and numbed by the reports and pictures on the attacks on
your country and the contempt for humankind they reveal. We do not know how
to express our symphathy adequately. We therefore invited our staff yesterday
to join in prayer and intercession. We have turned to God and asked him to
comfort all who have lost loved ones, to protect the rescue helpers searching
for survivors, to grant healing of wounds and souls and to alleviate the fear
and anxiety unleashed by this barbaric attack. We have also prayed that your
nation's leaders may be guided by God's wisdom in their reactions and not by
revenge. Although there have already been many special services in the
churches troughout our country yesterday, the chairlady of our board of
directors, Maria Jepsen, bishop of the Lutheran Church in Hamburg, together
with the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church of Hamburg will celebrate a
worship of prayer and intercession in front of the city hall here in Hamburg
later this afternnon to bring our sympathy with all thoses affected before
our Lord and Saviour.
We have recognized how vulnerable all of us are against such acts of evil and
new form of violence. We would therefore like to join hands with you in
prayer and work for justice and peace for all God's creation.
May God grant you love, wisdom, perceverance and strength in your ministry to
your people! We will continue to remember you in our prayers.
On behalf of the Board and Staff of the Evangelisches Missionswerk in
Germany,
Yours in God's service,
Herbert Meissner
General Secretary"
