CALL TO A BOYCOTT IF BUSH ATTACKS IRAQ

Inspired in the spirit of peace and justice that prevailed in the Global Social Forum in Porto Alegre, the "Red por la Cultura de Paz, el Desarrollo y la Seguridad Humana" (Net for a Culture of Peace, Development and Human Security – CHILE, an ecumenical network) is launching a campaign to stop the threat of war on Iraq.
As you can see in the following text, this is a CALL addressed to the organizations of the civil society and to the citizens all around the world to stop consuming goods and services produced or provided by American companies IF the American Government attacks Iraq without clearance from the UN Security Council.
It seems to us that this campaign has a sound moral value, since it expresses a firm opposition to war and to a clear abuse of power; solidarity with the people of Iraq --a victim in this conflict, and support to the United Nations as the legitimate organ for the peaceful solution of international conflicts. Furthermore, this CALL uses a language easily understood by those who are obsessively attached to economic power.
This is a decentralized campaign that needs to spread as a fire and become news in the media in order to achieve its main goal: prevent the war. For this reason, it asks for ACTION NOW. We are sure that uniting our hands and hearts, both in prayer and action, we can do it.

President Bush has declared once again his will to attack Iraq, ignoring and bypassing the United Nations Security Council. The civil society all around the world has shown in many ways, including massive demonstrations within the United States, its strong opposition to the American Government´s threat of war on Iraq and its support to peaceful negotiations to resolve international conflicts, with full respect of international law and institutions.
We, organizations of the civil society all around the World, must stand against the imperial arrogance of Bush and his supporters and defend PEACE using our own power, which is social mobilization.
Therefore, WE CALL THE CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND ALL THE CITIZENS OF THE WORLD WHO ARE AGAINST THIS WAR TO STOP BUYING AMERICAN PRODUCTS AND USING SERVICES PROVIDED BY AMERICAN COMPANIES AS SOON AS WE KNOW THAT BUSH HAS STARTED HIS CRAZY WAR AGAINST IRAQ.
If we do so, Bush and his followers will learn that the peoples of the world can live without their products and will also feel the cost of ignoring the will of the people and bypassing the United Nations.
Let us hope that this warning will help to prevent this war

LLAMADO A BOICOT SI BUSH
ATACA IRAK

El presidente Bush ha declarado una vez más su decisión de atacar Irak, ignorando al Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas. En todo el mundo la sociedad civil ha mostrado de múltiples maneras, incluso mediante manifestaciones masivas en los Estados Unidos, su firme oposición a la amenaza de guerra del Gobierno Norteamericano contra Irak, así como su decidido apoyo a las negociaciones pacíficas para resolver los conflictos internacionales, con pleno respeto por el derecho internacional y sus instituciones.
Nosotros, organizaciones de la sociedad civil de todo el mundo, debemos hoy ponernos de pie frente a a la arrogancia imperial de Bush y sus seguidores y defender la PAZ usando nuestro propio poder, que es la movilización social.
Por lo tanto, LLAMAMOS A LAS ORGANIZACIONES DE LA SOCIEDAD CIVIL Y A TODOS LOS CIUDADANOS DEL MUNDO QUE SE OPONEN A ESTA GUERRA PARA QUE DEJEMOS DE COMPRAR PRODUCTOS DE EMPRESAS NORTEAMERICANAS Y DE USAR SERVICIOS PROPORCIONADOS POR COMPAÑÍAS NORTEAMERICANAS TAN PRONTO COMO SEPAMOS QUE BUSH HA INICIADO SU GUERRA DEMENTE CONTRA IRAK.
Si lo hacemos así, Bush y sus seguidores aprenderán que los pueblos del mundo pueden vivir sin consumir sus productos y sentirán el costo de ignorar la voluntad popular y de pasar a llevar a las Naciones Unidas.
Esperemos que esta advertencia ayude a impedir la guerra
